Arrow Growhouse Evaluation Kit for Smart Horticulture

Concerns about global population growth, sustainability, and ecologically friendly farming are encouraging growers to adopt innovative technologies to improve overall efficiency. One of the more exciting of these innovations builds upon the Internet of Things (IoT) to enable remote, wireless, real-time sensing, monitoring, and control of indoor farming operations and conditions.

Arrow Electronics has bridged this gap and developed a kit that combines the best-of-the-best technologies, including signal conditioning, converter and power management technology from Analog Devices, wireless connectivity from Silicon Labs, LED dimming and color control of the OSRAM based Light Engine, ruggedized connectors from Amphenol, soil pH and moisture levels and remote accessibility through a cloud-based dashboard.

A complete Growhouse Platform contains the following boards and should be ordered individually, to meet your required Growhouse configuration.


Hardware Overview

LED Node  IoT Gateway  Soil Node


The Growhouse Evaluation Kit includes a soil-monitor node using leading edge technologies from Analog Devices, which include power and analog solutions to create a highly accurate measurement of the soils pH and moisture level to maximize crop yield. Also integrated is an IoT gateway based on a Qualcomm 96Boards platform and LED node featuring the ability to control the color, UV spectrum and intensity of a custom light engine.

Custom control of the Soil and LED nodes is accomplished through the IoT Gateway with the implementation of pre-certified ZigBee modules from Silicon Labs. IoS & Android based mobile applications are available for configuration and control of the Soil and LED nodes as well. Lastly, a light engine containing Osram OSLON Square high-power LEDs has been created for demonstration purposes only and the design files can be provided for further customization.
