What is it?
The VSP E590 and E790 are new all-NVMe flash storage solutions from Hitachi Vantara that bring enterprise-class performance and reliability into the midrange market. These new solutions build upon the success of the existing VSP all-flash data solutions and leverage the same SVOS RF operating system that is trusted by Hitachi's largest enterprise customers. The new VSP E-Series systems deliver best-in-class, ultra-low latency performance and increase efficiencies by delivering industry-leading IOPs per rack unit.
Why should you care?
Data is just as valuable to smaller companies as it is to large enterprises, and aging architectures are not equipped to handle the demands of modern use cases. In other words, the needs of today's mid-sized customers are overwhelming their existing infrastructure. These organizations really need solutions that can accelerate digital transformation, support modern processes like DevOps, increase efficiencies, and simplify management. By extending the value of their enterprise capabilities further down market, Hitachi is giving small and mid-sized businesses access to the same features that the Fortune 500 depends on every day.
How does it work?
The ability to deliver supercharged performance with NVMe enables customers to consolidate resources and reduce the costs of business-critical applications. It also means that customers have the power to utilize Hitachi's intelligent data-reduction technologies to increase storage efficiencies and make effective use of Hitachi's 4:1 sight-unseen effective capacity guarantee and up to 7:1 total efficiency guarantee.
The new VSP E-series also delivers unparalleled flexibility when it comes to management. Now, customers can choose between simplified, embedded management for quick setup and provisioning or the full Hitachi Ops Center suite.
VSP E-Series benefits
- Common interface
- Data services
- Analytics from entry to enterprise
Differentiation in the market
The VSP E-series systems offer best-in-class performance and capacity. The VSP E590 and E790 offer latency of less than 66uS; and the VSP E990 can deliver less than 64uS. This enables these systems to deliver industry-leading IOPS per RU (without complicated clustering) and provides the predictable performance necessary to deliver optimized data reduction and efficiency.
Many competitors only offer a single management interface for their platforms, but Hitachi now gives customers the power to choose the management strategy that fits their needs. For customers that prioritize rapid deployment and overall simplicity, embedded management provides default system configurations and fast provisioning of storage. If the customer requires more robust enterprise capabilities for larger deployments, the Hitachi Ops Center suite offers advanced configuration, data protection, monitoring, and automation. Customers also can start with embedded management and then easily migrate to the full Ops Center suite as their storage environment grows.
How do you position and sell VSP E-Series solutions?
Many mid-sized businesses now need to support very demanding, real-time, data-hungry applications. The VSP E-Series systems should be positioned in opportunities with customers using applications, such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and new edge computing architectures that will benefit from the performance of NVMe, increased workload consolidation, and data reduction.
All of the VSP E-series systems also support Hitachi's industry-leading storage virtualization technology. Customers can extend the life of aging storage assets and centralize administration by managing multiple virtualized arrays under a single console with Hitachi's Ops Center software. Storage virtualization also makes it simple, quick, and easy to migrate data across new or different storage systems.
Business-critical applications require extraordinary levels of reliability, and Hitachi systems are trusted with some of the world's most important data. Hitachi remote support ops leverages 30 years of knowledge and experience to predict and prevent downtime. So be sure to tell your customers that the VSP E-series systems provide enterprise-class reliability and 24x7 peace of mind with the industry's first, best, and most trusted 100% Data Availability Guarantee.
In addition, these solutions were not created in a vacuum. During the design and development of these VSP E-series systems, Hitachi carefully received direct input from Arrow and our channel partners to ensure these new systems would be extremely competitive in the midrange market. The consensus was that existing midrange flash storage solutions did not offer the performance and efficiency needed to support the realities of digital transformation and modern workloads. Existing solutions from competing suppliers were not living up to the reliability and data reduction capabilities that were originally promised — plus they were too complex, expensive, and inefficient. By leveraging the knowledge and experience of the channel, Hitachi was able to design and create solutions that deliver the class-leading performance, simplicity, and value that today’s midrange customers need.
