Meet the WaterBot – The World’s First Smart Water Quality Monitor

The WaterBot is the world’s first smart water quality monitor, an innovative IoT device. WaterBot developers took advantage of Arrow and Indiegogo’s partnership and joined the Arrow Certification Program, gaining access to valuable resources including hands-on support from ADI engineers helping with product design and development.

Hi, I'm Chris Richter co-founder of WaterBot. WaterBots are smart water quality monitors. They live underneath your kitchen sink. Simply, easily connect to any standard plumbing connection. Once connected, WaterBot monitors every drop of water that's coming out of this tap. It's gonna answer
the fundamental question, is this water safe to drink?

To answer that question, we use Analog Devices chips in the WaterBot. And we use that because we need accuracy, and precision on each and every reading. Once the WaterBot has sent those accurate measurement to the cloud, now we can start to make some sense of that data. What is my water quality right now?

All of those questions can be answered through WaterBot application. We perform all of those calculations on the cloud and put that alert, "Safe", "Not safe", to you phone, to your tablet or whatever device you might be wearing. While the WaterBot creators were experts in water quality measurement and safety, they were new to IoT until they took their idea to Indiegogo.

Through Indiegogo, they applied for Arrow certification and got access to Arrow's engineering expertise. We had an amazing phone call where we were able to go and quickly be able to understand and build that report. We felt Arrow certification program was important enough to us, that we chose to launch in Indiegogo.

The ability to have that certification badge meant the world to us, when we were at that grow up start-up phase. Arrow certification was useful for WaterBot in that, we were able to go and quickly guide them through all the various different design challenges phases of the design cycle. When Arrow and WaterBot came to us at Analog Devices, we quickly saw an opportunity to help.

We had a number of hybrid reference design solutions tailored for water quality analysis. That meant, they could easily integrate them into their design, achieve both high accuracy at a low cost.
Having the solutions at the ready, and available through our .com we were able to help WaterBot get to market sooner and help accelerate their product road map.

If you look at the Arrow certification program and what it meant to us from the certification itself, to the flash funding, to the collaboration, to the partners that are brought in, we've had the ability to strip down our device, completely start from scratch, and had a working prototype back in a 106 days. It's a product that we would've been initially waiting until maybe 2019 or beyond to ship version two. And we're gonna be able to release it by the end of this year as the first integrational WaterBot.

Analog Devices is an important part of our project. I mean, at a very, very core we are an analog to digital company. They're the best at that. And the ability to jump-start a project and leverage reference designs gives us a running start, and what we're trying to do in bringing WaterBot to reality.

Together with Arrow and Analog Devices, WaterBot came to life. Living up to WaterBot's mission, trusted safer water for everyone.
