Electronic equipment powered from the grid must be protected against high voltage surges. These can occur during natural events like severe weather or lightning strikes. The input rectification stage of Smart Electricity Meters, 5G Base Stations, LED Street Lamps among others must survive high voltage spikes by design. Features and Benefits:
Input rectifier stages connected to the landline have to fulfill the requirements of IEC 61010-1 CAT IV. That requires reverse voltage rating per leg of more than 2000 V, in order to cope with voltage surges caused by lightning strikes. Instead of using two or even three diodes in series per leg to reach such high rated voltage, the SM4000 is a single component offering 4000 V. As such it offers space and cost savings, at no compromise in reliability.
