WHAT IS "NTN"?
Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) refers to a type of network that is not based on traditional terrestrial infrastructure such as cables or fiber optics, but rather relies on satellite technology, airborne platforms, or other non-ground-based methods for communication.
NTNs are being explored as a way to extend connectivity to remote or underserved areas where traditional terrestrial networks may be difficult or expensive to deploy. They can also provide connectivity in emergency situations when ground-based infrastructure is damaged.
In the context of emerging technologies and future communications systems, Non-Terrestrial Networks are seen as a potential solution for expanding global connectivity and providing internet access to regions that lack reliable network infrastructure. This includes projects involving low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellite, geostationary orbit(GEO) satellite, and high-altitude platforms (HAPs), as well as other innovative approaches to deliver communication services from above the Earth's surface.
