The VD56G3 is the first release of a series of multiple-image sensors developed by STMicroelectronics for professional and consumer vision applications. Leveraging state-of-the-art technologies developed by STMicroelectronics own foundry, the sensor provides outstanding performance in visible and near infrared regions. With its clever design and complete toolbox of on-chip functions, it is the ideal solution for the design of tomorrow’s smart and optimized systems.

STMicroelectronics has introduced a set of plug-and-play hardware kits, evaluation camera modules and software that ease development with its ST BrightSense global-shutter image sensors. All camera modules share a common FPC-to-board connector and pinout, allowing instant module changes and reuse across different lenses, colors, and image sensors in the ST BrightSense portfolio.

The CAM-56G3 promodules are a full range of sample camera modules made for a seamless evaluation and integration of the VD56G3 1.5-megapixel monochrome image sensor. These ready-to-use vision extensions integrate VD56G3 image sensor, lens holder, lens, and plug-and-play flex connection in a tiny format down to 6.5 mm square.

Featuring MIPI CSI-2 output, the promodules are perfectly suited for embedded low-power setups.

CAM-56G3 promodules technical specifications

CAM-56G3 promodules can be tested and integrated on computers or embedded processing boards using hardware and software tools from STMicroelectronics. ST promodules are designed for evaluation purposes only. For production, please consult Appletec.

The compatible EVK Main (STEVAL-EVK-U0I) and P-Board (STEVAL-CAM-M0I) hardware kits enable straight connection to PC and embedded processing platforms respectively. Evaluation GUI software and Linux drivers are available for download from the Imaging Software section of the website.

The VD56G3 S-Board (STEVAL-56G3MAI) is quite similar to the VD56G3 P-Board. However, the S-Board already carries the sensor. This kit can be customized to your application with a broad range of M12 or smaller off-the-shelf lenses so there is no need to add a standard promodule.

Compatible Linux drivers are available for free download on st.com. The VD56G3 S-Board can also be used to perform sensor evaluation on a PC when it’s connected to the generic EVK Main hardware.
