Overview

Mobile robots are autonomous systems capable of navigating and performing tasks in dynamic environments with minimal to no human intervention. They range from simple delivery bots to advanced humanoids and collaborative robots (cobots). They are usually powered by 12–48V batteries and are equipped with sensors, motor drives, and intelligent control units with advanced AI and algorithms. They enhance productivity by safely interacting with humans and adapting to complex industrial settings.

onsemi offers a comprehensive and rich portfolio of solutions and products for mobile robots, including high-resolution image sensors, inductive positioning & ultrasonic sensors, and intelligent power components like gate drivers, MOSFETs, and power factor correction controllers. onsemi technology is showcased in every subsystem, from motion & power to sensing & communication, enabling developers to build robust autonomous mobile robotic products for industrial automation, logistics, and smart retail.

System Architecture

The block diagram below represents onsemi’s Smart & Mobile Robotics solution. An autonomous mobile robot consists of several interconnected subsystems that work together to enable safe and efficient operation. Key subsystems include battery management, motion control, sensing, and central processing (CPU).

The configuration of these subsystems varies by application, for example a robot designed for indoor use may require fewer sensors or a robot equipped with a robotic arm will need additional motor inverters for precise motion control.

The diagram below illustrates how these subsystems interact and highlights the integration of onsemi components across the entire architecture.

This diagram illustrates the architecture of a battery-powered electronic system, highlighting key modules such as AC input, battery charger, and power management.
