Pulse Transformers

A pulse transformer is an enhanced transformer that produces electrical pulses of great velocity and constant amplitude. They are often used in the transmitting of digital information and in transistors (particularly with gate drive circuits).

A good transformer should have galvanic isolation (low leakage inductance which permits the primary driving circuit to function at another electric potential derivative of a secondary driven circuit) and distributed capacitance. Low coupling capacitance is also crucial to protect the circuit.

Signal kinds of pulse transformers gear towards complementing logic drives to transmission lines. These operate with smaller power thresholds. Many such transformers serve as wideband transformers.  For digital data transmission kinds of transformers, they are optimized to reduce signal distortions.

Frequency range and signal conformity are determined by external factors like inter-winding capacitance, the individual capacitance of each winding and even resistance. Negative effects of these externalities result in overshoot, droop, back swing as well as deterred rise and fall time.  In lieu of these considerations, pulse transformers are designed according to power grades, inductance, voltage ratings, operating frequency, size, resistance, frequency range, winding capacitance.
