Connector Other

An electrical connector refers to many different types of electrical components, which serve to join two terminals, or termination points, of a conductive path. These connectors utilize metallic contacts for the continuity point, a plastic or other non-conductive element for the housing and protective layer, and usually have some form of locking mechanism to ensure the contact do not separate unintentionally.

Connectors come in many defined forms and functions. Some of most common are circular and rectangular connectors, which are simple plug and socket connectors with various pin count options available. More specifically, common connections in computers and video applications are designed for optimized performance and may have specific functions.  D-subminiature connectors are common in the serial communication and video output applications.   The use of jumpers is common on computer motherboards and PCBs, and allows for the connection of two pins to inform a controller of a certain setting.
