Connector Fiber Optics

Fiber Optic Connectors allow two fiber optic cables to work together as though they were one cable. Traditionally, combining two fiber optic cables would require a splice, which is a somewhat tedious process, and if not done correctly can introduce significant signal loss. A Fiber optic coupler essentially enables the properties of a good splice without performing the splicing procedure. The fiber optic connector is mechanically attached to both cable ends. If installed properly, little or no light is lost at the junctions. When light is lost at the junctions, it is usually due to reflections or misalignment of the fibers. Fiber optic connectors should easily be able to connect and disconnect to a piece of optical equipment or optoelectronics.

Some Fiber optic connectors apply a constant pressure by the use of springs so that the two ends of the cables or interfaced and don’t produce a gap, which would generate significant amounts of loss or reflections, which is undesired for optimal optical signal transmission.
