Capacitor Networks and Arrays

Capacitor banks and arrays are sets of multiple capacitors enclosed in the common package. Capacitor banks and arrays differ by number of integrated capacitor elements, capacitance value, tolerance value, maximum working voltage and type of packaging.

Their advantages include saving space on the printed circuit board (PCB) and reducing the cost of placing multiple discrete components (this is important for mass produced equipment).

The miniaturization of electronic devices increases the usage of capacitor arrays because they reduce the area needed for the placement of capacitors. The occupied area is larger if capacitors are placed as separate, discrete components. Usage of capacitor arrays increases the population speed of the PCB because the time needed for the population of the PCB is proportional to the number of placed elements.

Capacitor arrays are great whenever multiple capacitors are required (e.g. they can be found in the radio frequency filters, automotive and medical equipment, cordless phones, mobile phones, computer motherboards, networking devices, and digital set-top boxes).
