Batteries
Arrow.com has a huge selection of batteries for sale from leading manufacturers including Panasonic, Phoenix Contact, NXP, Intel, American Power Conversion, and Adafruit. We stock all chemistries, from alkaline to nickel-metal hydride, lead acid to lithium ion and more. Search by voltage, from 1.2V batteries up to 5V, 9V, 12V and large voltage products (24V to 192V). Sort by type, shape, average service life and more. Battery Chemistry Reference Sheet: Alkaline batteries are available in both primary and rechargeable (secondary) types. Primary alkaline use a chemistry based upon zinc and magnesium dioxide. Rechargeable alkaline are tweaked to optimize for recharging rather than capacity/energy density and are typically only about two-thirds the capacity. Lead-acid batteries are rechargeable, and typically used in high drain, high surge current applications. Lead acid is typically used in vehicles due to the high current drain load placed on it by the starter motor, which can be in the hundreds of amps. Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) is a lower leakage (self-discharge) version of the lead acid. Lithium-ion batteries are a high energy-density rechargeable type used in many applications, especially portable applications. They are also used in high drain applications like electric vehicles. They are used because their chemistry has special characteristics that allow for very light, energy dense solutions with a high number of recharge cycles (caused by irreversible chemical changes) and little or no memory effect. NiCad (nickel-cadmium) and NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) are alternative chemistry rechargeable batteries.
