A modem modules are a device that modulates signals to encode digital information and demodulates signals to decode the transmitted information. The purpose is to generate an easily transmitted and decoded signal that reproduced original digital data.
There are many ways to transmit analog signals (from light emitting diodes to radio), and modems may be used with any of them. A frequently used type of modem turns digital computer data into modulated electrical signals for transmission and is demodulated by another modem at the receiver side to recover the digital data.
Modems modules are typically classified by the amount of data they can transfer in a given amount of time, usually in bits per second. With todayโs technology one may see speeds anywhere from 500,000 bit/s for basic home or small office use, up to 100M bit/s for the most expensive high-end modems.
