USBLC6-2SC6 Low Capacitance ESD Protection for USB

ESD protection is necessary for common electronic products, but incorporating diode protection can introduce capacitance which reduces the bandwidth of data transmission lines. The USBLC6-2SC6 is an integrated ESD protection solution that incorporates multiple diodes, can protect two data lines and is also capable of protecting the bus voltage of that transmission line. With a low capacitance of 3.5pF and low leakage current of 150nA, the USBLC6-2SC6 has carefully matched I/O channels (max capacitance difference of 0.015pF) that helps to prevent additional EMI as well as enabling high-speed USB, full speed USB 1.1 and Ethernet ports up to 100 Mb/s. The IEC61000-4-2 level 4 compliance ensures that devices connected to the USBLC6-2SC6 are protected from ESD.

Evaluation Board

No evaluation board is available for the USBLC6-2SC6. When integrating the USBLC6-2SC6 into products it’s important to protect the bus voltage by keeping traces to the power line as small as possible. Running the power trace below the IC keeps the line as short as possible which reduces the impedance and therefore maximises the protection capability. The USBLC6-2SC6 should also be placed as close to the potential source of ESD. In typical applications, this would be close to the external connector.
