Keil Software is a German company specializing in embedded software development tools, widely known for its compilers, debuggers, integrated development environments, real‑time operating systems, and evaluation boards for microcontroller families such as ARM Cortex‑M, 8051, 251, and C166. Founded in the 1980s by Günter and Reinhard Keil, the company quickly became an industry leader by creating the first C compiler specifically designed for the 8051 microcontroller. In October 2005, Keil was acquired by Arm, after which it continued to expand its toolchain offerings, including the Keil MDK and ULINK debug adapters. Today, Keil’s development tools are used across diverse industries—from aerospace and automotive to healthcare and telecommunications—supporting developers building embedded systems for thousands of devices worldwide.
