Arrow Bike Build Event Benefits Family and Children’s Association
MELVILLE, N.Y. – July 17, 2007 –Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE: ARW) today announced that more than 200 of its Long Island employees will participate in a team-bonding “Arrow Bike Build” event to benefit children in underserved local communities. The event will be held on July 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Arrow’s corporate headquarters in Melville, Long Island.
As part of the Arrow Bike Build, 25 teams of employees will work together to accomplish a series of activities that test their problem solving, time management, customer service and communications skills while fostering group cooperation in a fun environment and for a worthy cause.
The end result: 50 brand-new bicycles built by Arrow employees, including safety helmets and bike locks, will be donated to seven- and eight-year-old children who participate in summer camp and after school enrichment programs for youth-at-risk through the Family and Children’s Association (FCA). FCA is a Mineola-based nonprofit that focuses on neglected populations throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Paul Reilly, senior vice president and chief financial officer, Arrow Electronics, will host the event. “Not only is the Arrow Bike Build a terrific example of how an individual employee’s efforts can contribute to the greater success of a group,” said Reilly, “but it also demonstrates the values that we have here at Arrow for community involvement and how we can use that to help improve our own working environment. More important, these bicycles will put smiles on the faces of many children who never would have had the opportunity to own a new bike before.”
“We are delighted that children in our youth development programs will benefit from Arrow’s generosity, and that Arrow employees share our commitment to the local communities on Long Island,” said James J. Harnett, president and chief executive officer, Family and Children’s Association. “It is a wonderful opportunity to partner with such good corporate citizens, so that we can continue in our mission to provide a broad range of early childhood education, youth development, community outreach and senior enrichment services and activities for those in need.”
Arrow works to improve Long Island’s communities and other communities where its more than 12,000 employees live and work through charitable donations, matching gifts for education and employee volunteer programs.
