Arrow Helps Provide Thanksgiving Meals to Local Families in NeedArrow has contributed $60,000 to three food banks in the United States to help provide holiday meals to less-fortunate families this Thanksgiving. Long Island Cares (The Harry Chapin Food Bank), the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and the Food Bank of the Rockies each received $20,000 to satisfy the enormous demand for holiday meals in the three U.S. communities where Arrow has its largest presence – Long Island, N.Y., Denver, Colo., and Reno, Nev. Long Island Cares (The Harry Chapin Food Bank) will use the funds to supply more than 3,000 roasters to its member agencies. According to the food bank, while there is a significant demand for turkeys, many smaller families on Long Island do not need large birds and others cannot handle even small turkeys due to cooking limitations. Arrow’s donation will fulfill more than half of the organization’s demand for holiday birds this year. “Arrow Electronics is really helping us fill a special need by partnering with us in this innovative program.” said Lynn Needelman, executive director of Long Island Cares. “Through this very generous donation, we now will be able to fulfill our agencies’ requests and help more of our Long Island neighbors who are struggling this Thanksgiving season. We are giving thanks for Arrow Electronics.” The Food Bank of Northern Nevada has experienced a recent drop in food donations, and Arrow’s gift will enable them to provide thousands of complete meals for low-income children, seniors and working poor in Reno. “With the drop we have seen in industry contributions in recent months, our food purchase budget has been hit hard just to keep food available in the warehouse for routine needs, and we’re feeling the impact of rising food costs as well,” said Cherie Jamason, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. “This generous and unexpected gift from Arrow Electronics will enable us to purchase a full truckload of nutritious food in time for Thanksgiving.” The Food Bank of the Rockies will use Arrow’s gift to provide more than 1,300 Thanksgiving turkeys and food boxes to less-fortunate families in the Denver metro area. The organization will pack food boxes, including the turkeys and other holiday food items, to be distributed to partner agencies on the front line of hunger. “This generous grant award makes it possible for us to offer more than a thousand Thanksgiving meals to community partners who are badly in need of our help,” said Tony Alexis, vice president of Food Bank of the Rockies. “We’re so grateful to Arrow Electronics for their partnership in making this Thanksgiving so much better for folks in need of a helping hand.” Jacqueline Strayer, Arrow’s vice president of corporate communications, said, “Arrow is committed to supporting the communities in which our employees live and work. Partnering with Long Island Cares, The Food Bank of the Rockies, and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, it is our hope to make the Thanksgiving holiday brighter for many families.” In addition to Arrow’s monetary support, Arrow employees on Long Island have joined the company’s efforts to help provide complete Thanksgiving meals for the local families in need through a Thanksgiving food drive at its three facilities on Long Island. The goal is to collect 2,000 canned food items from its 750 employees on Long Island. Click here to learn more about Long Island Cares, The Harry Chapin Food Bank |
