Arrow in the Community

In 2008, Arrow contributed to more than 70 nonprofit organizations in the United States and around the world. Some of these organizations, and the programs which Arrow supported, are highlighted below.

Education, Arts & Culture

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL)

Arrow has supported the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Dolan DNA Learning Center for many years. The Dolan DNA Learning Center at CSHL, a research and educational institution on Long Island, provides hands-on laboratory workshops to 30,000 students and teachers each year. The laboratory has research programs focusing on cancer, neurobiology, plant genetics, genomics and bioinformatics.

Commerce Plaza
Arrow makes annual contributions to Commerce Plaza, a popular field trip destination where fifth-grade students on Long Island can participate in a real-life simulation of the business community.

Denver Public Schools Foundation
Arrow sponsored the Denver Public Schools Foundation’s Denver Camp 2008. Denver Camp provides low- and no-income Denver Public School students with quality activities for the summer and keeps students engaged in academic and enriching activities to prevent learning loss.

Denver Zoological Foundation

The Denver Zoo serves as a wildlife sanctuary that provides environmental education to inspire public awareness of global conservation in an urban recreational setting. The zoo engages in scientific programs that make meaningful contributions to the conservation of animals and their ecosystems. Arrow's Mike Long, president and chief operating officer, is a member of the Denver Zoo's board of directors.

Institute for Student Achievement

Arrow contributes annually to the Institute for Student Achievement in support of its development and implementation of Small Learning Communities at several at-risk high schools on Long Island.

Mile High Youth Corps

In 2006, Arrow became a sponsor of Denver, Colo.-based Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC), which works to improve communities and the lives of youth by putting young people to work in urban neighborhoods, public parks and open spaces. MHYC provides young adults with comprehensive services to help them develop technical job skills, prepare for the workforce and achieve their educational goals. Arrow's Don Schlidt, vice president and general manager of Arrow/Zeus Electronics, is a member of the organization's board of directors.

Research Foundation of the State University of New York (SUNY)
In 2008, Arrow contributed to the Research Foundation of SUNY, a nonprofit organization that supports research, education and public service. Arrow’s grant supports the Foundation’s College Preparatory Program, a year-round tutoring program for high school students in at-risk communities on Long Island.

 

Wyandanch Youth Services

In 2008, Arrow sponsored Wyandanch Youth Services’ Summer Youth Preparatory Program, providing an opportunity for students from schools in at-risk communities near Arrow’s Long Island-based headquarters to spend a week of their summer preparing for the upcoming school year and learning the importance of a preparing for a college education. Wyandanch Youth Services is committed to the development of youth and prevention of delinquency through community development and activities designed to meet the social, emotional, physical and educational needs of at-risk children.

 

Young Americans Center for Financial Education

Arrow is a corporate supporter of the Young Americans Center for Financial Education. The Denver, Colo.-based nonprofit organization's mission is to further the economic education of young people so they will be competent and knowledgeable in managing their financial affairs, helping them to prosper in the free enterprise system. Part of the Adopt-A-School program, Arrow's most recent gift allowed 430 students to participate in programs that teach youth about free enterprise and global economics.

Arts & Culture

Channel 21/WLIW

Arrow gives consistently to Long Island’s public broadcasting television station WLIW21, and holds annual employee volunteer opportunities at the WLIW21 studio in Plainview, N.Y.

 

Huntington Arts Council

Arrow is a sponsor of the Huntington Arts Council’s annual Summer Arts Festival, Long Island’s premier performance series, featuring more than 50 dance, musical and theatrical performances, six nights a week during the summer. The festival spotlights major national, international and local artists and attracts more than 90,000 visitors each year.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

Since 2005, Arrow has been a corporate sponsor of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.

Arrow is a corporate sponsor of 10 educational museums across the United States, including:

Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting Network
Arrow is a supporter of the Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting Network, Colorado’s public broadcasting television service.

Health & Human Services

Denver Options

In 2008, Arrow contributed to Denver Options, a nonprofit organization that provides children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities a choice of services to support their living, working and learning in the community, and to help them achieve optimum independence and productivity.

 

Family & Children’s Association (FCA)

Family and Children’s Association protects children, helps individuals and families on Long Island, and strengthens communities by offering assistance to those who are experiencing social, emotional or economic difficulties. Arrow’s support of FCA goes toward its educational programs aimed at eliminating the pre-K–12 “achievement gap.”


Food Bank of Northern Nevada

In 2008, Arrow made a contribution to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, a food bank dedicated to ending hunger in Northern Nevada through direct services, advocacy, outreach and education.

 

Huntington Hospital

Arrow has supported Huntington Hospital for several years. Huntington Hospital is part of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System. Arrow's Brian McNally, president, Global Alliance and Supply Chain, is currently a member of the hospital's board of directors.

Island Harvest

Arrow has been the Grand Sponsor of Island Harvest's annual Coin Harvest campaign since 2005. Island Harvest's mission is to reduce food waste and end hunger on Long Island.

Reel Recovery
In 2008, Arrow contributed to Reel Recovery, a national organization that conducts fly-fishing retreats for men recovering from life-threatening cancer.
 

United Way

Arrow has supported the Long Island and Mile High (Denver) United Ways for many years.

Environmental

Denver Botanic Gardens

In 2008, Arrow sponsored the Denver Botanic Gardens, an environmental organization that strives to educate the community on how to take advantage of Denver’s regional uniqueness.

 

Group for the East End

Arrow donates annually to Long Island-based Group for the East End. Established in 1972, the group is dedicated to protecting the environment, rural character and quality of life across Long Island's East End through public advocacy and public education.

Long Island Nature Conservancy

Arrow has made annual contributions to the Long Island Nature Conservancy since 2000. The Nature Conservancy is a leading international, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the diversity of life on the Earth.

Sustainable Long Island

In 2008, Arrow sponsored the Brownfields Revitalization Program at Sustainable Long Island, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting economic development that protects the environment and increases opportunity for Long Islanders.

Volunteer Grants

Arrow offers two volunteer grant programs designed to support U.S. employees who provide volunteer services in their communities. Programs are available both for individuals and teams of Arrow employees who work on volunteer projects or participate in “walks,” “runs” and other fundraising activities with nonprofit organizations. The programs enable Arrow volunteers to earn cash grants for the organizations they support.
