Employees Help Build Home for Katrina EvacueesOn April 14, seven Arrow Denver employees participated in a Habitat for Humanity build at Tollgate Crossing in Aurora, Colo. The team spent the entire day working side by side with future homeowners William and Debbie Edmond, who evacuated New Orleans with their granddaughter following Hurricane Katrina. “It was amazing how easily we formed as a team to help each other get the work done,” said team captain Cliff Purslow, manager, Supply Chain Solutions, Arrow Alliance, Englewood, Colo. “Most of us had never installed siding or built roof supports before, but with a little instruction and teamwork, we were successful in getting the tasks done. A real sense of accomplishment was felt by all when the day was over.” The Edmonds’ neighborhood in New Orleans was completely devastated after Hurricane Katrina. In the wake of the storm, the family was split up, but found each other after an investigation and reunited in Denver. The family described their experience with Habitat for Humanity and the prospect of homeownership as “truly a blessing.” Their new home is scheduled to be completed by June 2007. The Arrow volunteers who participated in the build were Cliff Purslow; Jim Bell, product manager, Arrow/Zeus; Scott Hale, account development specialist, Supplier Services Group; Eric Holmberg, applications engineer, Supplier Services Group; Brian McKnight, product operations associate, Supplier Services Group; Vince Pastor, field development manager, Supplier Services Group; and Rebecca Smith, supplier accounting coordinator, Enterprise Computing Solutions. Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. A nonprofit organization, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in over 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
