More than 50 elementary and middle school students from Long Island got a boost in their mathematics, science and language arts skills this summer thanks to a $10,000 charitable contribution from Arrow to Wyandanch Youth Services’ Summer Youth Preparatory Program.
Held at Farmingdale State University in Farmingdale, N.Y., from August 6 to 12, the Summer Youth Preparatory Program provided an opportunity for students from schools in at-risk communities near Arrow’s headquarters to spend a week of their summer preparing for the upcoming school year and learning the importance of a preparing for a college education. Parents of the children also attended a special two-hour course, “Head Start to College,” to aid in the development of an academic roadmap and prepare their children for college.
“Thanks to the support of Arrow Electronics, we were able to give the students who participated a tremendous learning and growth experience that would not have been available to them otherwise,” said Patti W. Bullard, executive director, Wyandanch Youth Services.
